Anritsu has introduced the Remote Spectrum Monitor, a platform of modular and scalable products, without a display or keyboard, that automates the method of conducting radio surveillance, interference detection and government spectrum policy enforcement.

The device features two spectrum monitor modules at introduction: the MS27102A and MS27103A with battery like Anritsu S312D Battery, Anritsu S331C Battery, Anritsu S332C Battery, Anritsu S325D Battery, Anritsu S412D Battery, Anritsu S810C Battery, Anritsu S810D Battery, Anritsu S820B Battery, Anritsu S820C Battery, Anritsu MS2711B Battery, Anritsu MS2711D Battery, Anritsu MT8212B Battery. Each module has power of arrival (POA) algorithms to monitor for interference and approximate the position where the interfering signal is being generated.

The MS27102A is designed to maximise network capacity by efficiently solving issues associated with the presence of illegal or unlicensed signals that interfere with authorised transmissions. Certified with an IP67 rating, it is suitable for outdoor monitoring applications and can be wall or pole mounted. With an operating temperature range of –40 to +55°C, one (or optionally two) weather-resistant RF In port, a rugged weatherised case and splash-proof design, the product performs well in harsh weather conditions.

The MS27103A is designed for multiple antenna applications that cover wide frequency ranges and is a rack-mountable multiport RF In probe that constantly monitors the spectrum to ensure optimal performance. It is suitable for cellular operators requiring spectrum monitoring coverage for multiple sectors and numerous frequencies per sector at their BTS locations.

Covering 9 kHz to 6 GHz, the probes have sweep rates up to 24 GHz/s, allowing capture of interferers, including periodic or transient transmissions as well as short ‘bursty’ signals. The modules also have low power consumption of <11 W.

Connecting to the Remote Spectrum Monitor using a Ethernet Network

Communication with the MS27102A is done via the GBit Ethernet port located on the instrument. Options are provided for using DHCP to obtain an IP address dynamically or for setting up a static IP address. The instrument is shipped with the default static IP address of 10.0.0.2. Once a connection is made to the instrument via a laptop/PC, the IP type can be changed via the user interface presented by the monitor’s integrated web server.

For DHCP usage, Anritsu offers an Ethernet Discovery Program which queries your network for all connected devices. The Ethernet Discovery Program can be found on the Anritsu website.

Some customers may prefer to use a Domain Name Server (DNS) where the spectrum monitor’s hostname can be resolved into its dynamic IP address. A DNS server provides the ability to create a hostname. Examples might include hostnames such as “mymonitor1.org” or “spectrum1.net”. There are several free DNS services available. One such service used by Anritsu is
www.no-ip.com. You will need to create an account and select a hostname for your instrument.

This document describes guidelines for SNMP monitoring of Secure Access devices’ health and stability. The MIB OIDs and functions in the tables provided are from the Juniper Networks MIB and UC Davis MIB.

The Monitors with battery such as Juniper 12523 Battery, Juniper LHJBT-H11U Battery, Juniper VSH-H11U Battery, Juniper Allegro CX Battery, Juniper VR-151 Battery, Juniper GP VR151 Battery, Juniper Allegro MX Battery, Juniper Maxell M3614 Battery, Juniper Polaroid PR-632 Battery, Juniper AMX-1 Battery, Juniper AMX-2 Battery, Juniper AMX-5 Battery, Most objects explained in this document are also included in the Juniper SA/MAG/IC Software Administration Guide. The Juniper Networks MIB has all the necessary objects that can be used for monitoring most of the components while the UCD MIBs has a few useful objects and is added for information. Standard SNMPv2 MIB is also supported but not included in this document.

PROCEDURE
1. Download the Juniper Networks MIB from the device Admin UI SNMP page. This has most of the objects for MAG/SA SNMP monitoring (See NOTES below).
2. To monitor system statistics, such as memory utilization, load the UC-Davis MIB file into the SNMP manager application.
3. Install the MIBS to monitor your device and use the OIDs described in the tables shown later in this document.

NOTES
SMMPv2 standard MIB and the UCDavis MIB are supported, but most of the needed objects for monitoring stabiity are already available through the Juniper Networks MIB downloadable from the Admin UI SNMP page.

Safe and critical values are essentially guides to assist in establishing some monitoring. Adjustments may be necessary depending on configurations to be done on the devices but most of the values are known best practice values and recommendations.
